These are photos from my visit to Alvar Aalto’s own house in Helsinki (2015).

It was a space that was not overly manicured, in a good way; it was calm, filled with love, and felt like a place where a family could truly relax.

We tend to think about things like what concept to use to organize a space, how to create consistency within it, or how to make it look beautiful.

But when thinking about one's own home, I felt I learned that cherishing the feeling of comfort for oneself and one's family is what truly leads to a space overflowing with love.

I had imagined a magnificent architectural space with neatly arranged designer interiors, but Aalto's own house had a sense of simplicity and everyday life, which is where I felt a great spiritual richness.

It was a space that felt calm, full of love, and gently unpolished in the best possible way — a home where you could imagine a family truly relaxing.

When we think about designing our own homes, we often focus on things like concept, consistency, and how to make a space look beautiful.
But being there made me realize that a space filled with love is born from something simpler: prioritizing what feels truly comfortable for ourselves and our families.

I had imagined a grand architectural space, lined with meticulously curated interior design pieces.
But Aalto’s home had a certain simplicity and a lived-in warmth — and that’s exactly what gave it a sense of spiritual richness.
